Michel Beroff was born in 1950. After graduating from the Nancy Music Conservatoire, he attended the CNSM of Paris in Pierre Sancan's class, where he graduated with honors in 1966. The following year, he was awarded first place in the Olivier Messiaen International Piano Contest and thereafter has been considered one of the most important interpreters of Messiaen.

Michel Beroff's international career enabled him to play worldwide with the most prestigious orchestras and conductors such as, Abbado, Barenboim, Berstein, Boulez, Dohnanyu, Dorati, Dutoit, Eschenbach, Gielen, Inbal, Jochum, Krivine, Leinsdorf, Masur, Ozawa, Previn, Rostropovitch, Sinopoli, Solti, Tennsted, Tilson-Thomas and Zinman. As a chamber music pianist, he had the opportunity to play with the best instrumentalists of his time.

In addition to his very intense career as a soloist, Michel Beroff started another career as an orchestra conductor and has been teaching at Freiburg' Music University (Musikhochschule) since 1994 and at CNSM in Paris since 1989. During the 1999/2000 season Michel performed with the New York Philharmonic and Kurt Masur, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Concertgebouw and toured with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Among his many recording are the complete works for piano and orchestra of Liszt, Prokofieff and Stravinsky under the direction of Masur and Ozawa and the works of Bach, Brahms, Schumann, Moussorgsky, Saint-Saens, Debussy, Ravel, Messiaen, Stravinsky and Bartok. For Deutsche grammophon, Michel Beroff recorded the Ravel piano concert, for the left hand only, with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Claudio Abbado.

He has recently recorded five records with the complete piano works of Claude Debussy for Denon. His records received five "Grand Prix du Disque" awards (Top Award for Records).

During the music season of 1998 and 1999, Michel Beroff played with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Kurt Masur. He also went on tour in Japan twice, where he performed in a concert with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Esa-Peka Salonen. He also performed a concert in Paris where he played the complete piano works of Debussy and has participated in countless other concerts in France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Portugal and Greece.

Michel Beroff has many recordings to his credit. His recordings for EMI include the complete works for piano and orchestra by Prokofiev (with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Kurt Masur), Stravinsky and Liszt, as well as other works by Messiaen, Schumann, Brahms and Debussy. For Deutsche Grammophon he has recorded the Ravel Concerto for the Left Hand with the London Symphony Orchestra and Claudio Abbado. As well as continuing to record for EMI, Michel Beroff is in the process of recording the complete solo piano works of Debussy for Denon
