Ignacio Mariscal
CELLO

Ignacio Mariscal stands out on account of his broad repertoire, beautifull sound, virtuosity and musicality. As a soloist, he has played with Mexico`s main orchestras and performed throughout Mexico and Europe. With Trio Mexico, he has played for 20 years touring in the Americas, the Caribbean and the Orient, obtaining always outstanding reviews: “such unbounded enthusiasm in the audience is rarely encountered; “Top category, enthusiastic audience”.

He has made many recordings for the Radios and TVs of many countries and several LPs and CDs. His latest CD, out of a series of three involving mexican music for the cello, “Three Composers, Three Generations” has music dedicated to him., and was sponsored by the Counsil for Culture and the Arts.

He`s also had an outstanding career in the area of chamber music, playing with such eminent artists as Henryk Szeryng and founding several chamber ensembles. Presently he is Cello Soloist from the Fine Arts Institute of Mexico. He was recipient with the Trio Mexico of the Highest Distinction of the Inter-American Music Council from the OAS and the Congressional Certificate of Merith of the USA. He also received other important recognitions, such as the Youth Award given by the President of Mexico.

With his duo-partner pianist Maria Teresa Frenk with whom he forms a duo since 1996, he obtained an important place in the international concert life.

Ignacio Mariscal was born in Monterrey, Mexico. He studied with eminent cellists such as Imre Hartman, Victor Manuel Cortés, Leopoldo Télles, Soia Kamisheva, Elías Arizcuren, Tibor Demachula, Marcial Cervera, Janos Starker and Mstislav Rostropovich. He teaches at the School of Music of the National University, Mexico's most outstanding music school.
