THE ACADEMIC WIND OCTET was formed in February of 1979 by Venezuela 's finest wind players. In international credits include performances on many of the world's most distinguished venues such as: The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Organization of American States. The Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The World Financial Center's Winter Garden at the Crystal Palace, The Americas Society, The Mannes College of Music in New York City, in the State of Arizona (Phoenix, Sun Cities, Safford, Tucson and Carefree). In Spain, ( Galicia, Madrid and Canary Islands). In Italy, (Rome, Naples, Corato , Campobasso, Padula, Paestum, Amalfi and Caserta ), III World Summit of Tangos (Uruguay), Buenos Aires, Tango Festival (Argentina); Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina, International Music Festivals in Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Curaçao, Jamaica, Suriname, México at the Cervantes and Cervantino Festivals, Uruguay and Chile.

Its large repertoire includes original works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Hummel, Krommer and many other celebrated composers. It also has countless arrangements and transcriptions of barroque , classical, operatic and popular music done by arrangers of the era and by those of today including many works dedicated especially to the Octet by composers from Latin America . This is why The Academic Wind Octet is able to elaborate its programs to audiences from any continent and has performed with famous artists like Susana Rinaldi and Facundo Cabral. The Academic Wind Octet is perhaps one of the finest chamber groups of its kind because of the extremely high artistic level of its members who have performed as soloists with important orchestras and chamber ensembles of diverse countries. Its seven compact disc recordings have been critically acclaimed throughout Europe and the Americas .
