Peter Svensson
TENORE DRAMATICO

In 2005 and 2006 Peter Svensson impressed his audiences at the Ring productions of  Mexico City and Wroclaw (producer Hans Peter Lehmann) as Siegmund and both Siegfrieds, again verifying the statements in the Financial Times as well as in Opernwelt of being ?a major found for the category of Heldentenor? (for his RIENZI at the Prague State Opera ).

In 2004 Peter Svensson was also nominated for ?Pedro? (Tiefland) for the prestigious czech National Culture Award THALIE.

Born in Vienna, Peter Svensson started his singing career as the soprano soloist of the famous Vienna Boys Choir. He graduated ?cum laude? from Vienna Music Academy - among his teachers were Fritz Uhl and James King.

Claudio Abbado brought Peter to the Vienna State Opera, with beginners contracts 1989/91. He was prize winner at the Richard Tauber Competition in London 1991 and received the stipendium of Richard Wagner Society in 1992.

The young Heldentenor  has performed at  La Scala Milano, Paris, Athen, Hamburg, Dresden, Dublin, Bilbao, Cologne, Rome, Leipzig, Helsinki, Trieste, Catania, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Barcelona, Geneva, Stuttgart, Osaka, Hannover, Modena, Bonn, Bologna, Madrid, Torino, Las Palmas, Tokyo, Mexico City and many other places ? with producers such as Ruth Berghaus, Claus Guth, Hans Hollmann, Richard Jones, Harry Kupfer, Hans Peter Lehmann, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Ladislav ?tros, Jossi Wieler,...
he had been invited to the Festivals of Vienna, Edinburgh, Bergen, Lucerne, Prague Spring, Wexford, Ankara, Belgrave, Shaljapin Opera Festival/Russia,...

Svensson has sung with many of the leading European orchestras, under the most distinguished, and upraising conductors, among them Claudio Abbado, Marc Albrecht, Myung-Whun Chung, James Conlon, John Eliot Gardiner, Daniele Gatti, Neeme Järvi, Jiri Kout, Vladimir Jurowski, Sir Charles Mackerras, Donald Runnicles, Sir Georg Solti, Horst Stein, ...

His opera repertory is rich, including:

  • Roles of the dramatic,German Heldentenor as Florestan, Bacchus, Max, Pedro, Tambourmajor, Rienzi, Erik, Tannhäuser, Siegmund, both Siegfriede, and recently Tristan,
  • the slavonian repertory (Laca, ?teva, Jeník, Dimitrij, Manolios, Dalibor, Filka Morozow, Hermann),
  • and Spinto parts such as Cavaradossi, Don José, Turiddu, Canio, Andrea Chenier, Des Grieux ?  and 2008 Otello in Mexico City.

The excellent interpretation of difficult Tenor parts, as for instance Mahler?s 8th and Das Lied von der Erde, Glagolithic Mass (CHANDOS-rec. under Sir Charles Mackerras) and Oedipe Rex (CHANDOS-rec. under Neeme Järvi), made Peter Svensson too a sought after artist at the most famous concert halls.
